The Distal Upper Limb Lab was established in 2002 to study the ergonomics of the upper limb. It is located in Walter Scott Engineering Center, Room 361.
The Distal Upper Limb Lab has custom designed equipment to study the movement of multiple joints such as the wrist and hand or the hand and forearm, and a touch screen to examine aiming capabilities. This is accomplished by the use of force or torque measurements, EMG, anthropometry and goniometry.
The Center for Ergonomics and Safety Research was established in 1991 to study and improve job performance and well-being of people in relation to their job tasks, equipment, and environment.
Ergonomics is the study of people and their environments. The goal of ergonomics is to design people's jobs and surroundings to fit their abilities. Ergonomics is often broken into two classifications: physical and cognitive. Physical ergonomics covers topics such as: workstation design, anthropometry (body dimensions), and biomechanics. Cognitive ergonomics covers topics such as: visual search, human-computer interaction, and display design.
