ASME Competitions


  • 1997 Regional Student Conference, tentatively at Univ. of Kansas
  • Old Guard Competition - Oral presentation, trip to Nationals in Dallas, TX
  • Technical Poster - $200, 1st place
  • ASME Student Design Competition - $200
  • ASME Paper Competition - paper on mechanical design topics, $500 to each finalist
  • Williston Paper Competition - 12 pages on the interaction of engineering and society. Topic: "Virtual Reality in Mechanical Engineering", $1000, medal & travel stipend
  • Pressure Vessels & Piping Paper Competition - any topic related to pressure vessels & piping. One paper from each college, an abstract is due September 30, $500 to each finalist, additional $500 to each winner
  • WISE Program - 16 Students in their final year of undergraduate study to spend 10 weeks in Washington D.C. for the summer of 1997. $1400 stipend + housing and travel expenses, to live in dorms at George Washington University. Only 1 ASME member. Application deadline, December 13, 1996.
  • NOTE: this competition list will remain posted even if the items are past due, that way you can plan ahead for next year's competition

    ASME Sponsored Scholarships & Loans

    • International Gas Turbine Institute Scholarship - congratulations go to Matt Wood, this years winner.
      Be sure to plan ahead for next year's application deadline in late September
    • ASME Student Loan, interest free while in school!!
      Spring semester application due by October 7, Summer/Fall by Sept. 25
