Dr. Rohde joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in January 1992. In 1993 she received the National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award. She served as the Interim Associate Dean of the college for the Omaha campus from 2000-2002. She was honored as a RFT (Swedish Research Council) guest professor in Linkoping, Sweden in 2000, a post she still holds. Dr. Rohde served as editor for the International Conference on Metallurfical Coatings and thin Films and is a member of the DOE/Argonne National Lab's Energy Technology division review board, the American Vacuum Society, Society of Vacuum Coaters, Society of Women Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International. She is the 2005 chairperson of the Advanced Service Engineering Division of the AVS.

Research Interests:

Thin Film Deposition and Surface Engineering

Development of novel thin film sputtering equipment, processes and technology transfer. Materials characterization, specifically in the areas of hard coatings, piezoelectrics, nanostructured and super lattice thin films. Tribological (frictional), micro structural, and chemical analysis of thin films and surfaces via mechanical testing, scanning electron microscopy, Auger electron microscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry and x-ray diffraction. Ion implantation and analysis of ion induced effects in materials. With funding from the National Science Foundation, NATO, AAAS, TFR (the Swedish Research Council), UNL and a number of industrial sponsors, Dr. Rohde's research group actively promotes collaborative research among faculty, students, government laboratories, and industry in the United States, Europe and Asia.
