Guidelines for the Use of Computing Resources at UNL
I. COMPUTING RESOURCES
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln offers computing resources for use by UNL
students, faculty, staff and administrators. These resources include
computers, storage devices, peripheral devices, supplies, software, data,
documentation, communication networks, services and support. UNL computing
resources are authorized for instructional, research, service and
administrative use. All users are expected to exercise professional courtesy
when using the above mentioned resources.
A failure to abide by these guidelines for the use of computing resources at
UNL can result in the imposition of one or more of the following sanctions:
loss of computing privileges, disciplinary action by UNL, civil action, and/or
criminal prosecution.
II. ETHICAL PRINCIPLES
Ethical and acceptable uses of computing resources at UNL shall be
governed
- "Ethical Principles for the Use of Computing Resources"
(adopted by UNL Faculty Senate on 05/08/85).
- The UNL Student Code of Conduct.
III. PROHIBITED ACTS
The following list contains examples of prohibited acts that may subject an
actor to sanctions.
- Access or attempt to access computing resources without appropriate
authorization.
- Disruption of the intended use of computing resources.
- Destruction or modification of the integrity of computer based information.
- Invading the privacy of other users.
- Use of computing resources for personal gain.
- Violation of the protection provided by copyright and/or license for
computer programs.
- Use of computing resources for other than their intended purpose.
The above list is illustrative only and is not all inclusive.
IV. ENFORCEMENT
The Director of the UNL Computing Resource Center is authorized to monitor
the use of computing resources, to protect computing resources themselves and
the rights of computing resources users, and to recommend the imposition of
sanctions against any person who violates these guidelines.
V. DISSEMINATION
These guidelines shall be distributed to all University computer users and
displayed prominently in all public access computing facilities at the
University of Nebraska-Lincoln. For further information relative to these
