MINUTES UNL CCC MEETING, APRIL 30, 1996 The meeting was called to order at 9:37 AM. Williams discussed the progress on the WindowsNT client-server test-bed project. Things seem to be moving forward satisfactorily. Nau and Cole will lead the implementation. Williams briefly discussed the request from Dean Hendrix for advice on the purchase of a computer to replace cse, the aging Silicon Graphics machine used by the CS&E department mostly for undergraduate instruction. Reichenbach stated that the problem had been resolved in this case, but thought that the Committee should help formulate a general strategic plan for computing in the College. There was general agreement on this point. It was decided that we should discuss the outlines of such a plan during the summer break, with the goal of developing a written plan early in the Fall semester. Reichenbach distributed a draft recommendation for staff support for computing within the College. This draft will be discussed at our next meeting. Williams unwittingly moved that the Committee formally recommend to Dean Hendrix that the DEC 2100 be converted from the VMS operating system to Unix as soon as it is feasible to do so. The motion was seconded by Reichenbach. Belik provided the Committee with usage rates for the DEC 2100. After a short discussion, the motion passed unanimously. Everyone present at the meeting will be available during the summer, so it was agreed that the committee would continue to meet at roughly one-month intervals during the summer. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 in the EE conference room.
